West Bromwich Albion frustrated Liverpool by holding them to a goalless draw at The Hawthorns this afternoon.

The Reds' chances of finishing in the top four took another blow as they reside six points behind fourth-placed Manchester City, while the Baggies are seven points clear of relegation.

Goal

Boaz Myhill: The busier of the two goalkeepers, but he was able to handle the pressure of Liverpool's attack. He made an impressive double save following strikes from Coutinho and Henderson. (8/10)

Defence

Craig Dawson: Given the task of keeping Sterling quiet and, while the Liverpool youngster was involved in the majority of his side's attacks, Dawson kept up with his pace and held his own against the England international. (7/10)

Gareth McAuley: Comfortable and strong in his position throughout the game, despite facing the threat of Sterling and Coutinho. Never looked troubled while doing his job and kept composed when his side were on the back foot. (9/10)

Jolen Lescott: Did well alongside McAuley and used his experience to thwart attacks from their opponents. (8/10)

Chris Brunt: Did not look very troubled throughout the game, but had the help of his teammates at times. It was only in the second half when he managed to get forward. (6/10)

Midfield

James Morrison: A hard-working performance on the wing and showed an act of bravery by lunging in for a header at goal, which left him with a cut on his forehead. Came achingly close to scoring during that attempt, but Lovren cleared off the line. (8/10)

Darren Fletcher: Not particularly influential, but he did his job well by being one of the bodies packing into West Brom's own half to keep Liverpool quiet. (6/10)

Claudio Yacob: Looked tetchy at times due to some sloppy passing. He gave the ball away a few times, but improved as the contest went on. (5/10)

Crag Gardner: Wasted two good chances to create goalscoring opportunities for the forwards in the first half with wayward balls. Came close to scoring in the second, but his effort blasted into the side-netting. (5/10)

Attack

Victor Anichebe: Got himself into some decent attacking positions, but did not receive much service as his side tried to keep Liverpool at bay. (5/10)

Saido Berahino: One decent chance when he closed down Johnson, but he rarely had a touch in the second half and was eventually substituted. (5/10)

Substitutes

Calum McManaman: Very impressive when he entered the field in the second half as he brought an attacking threat to the game that had been missing. Came close to scoring in the dying minutes of the encounter, but his effort at the near post was stopped by Mignolet (8/10)

Brown Ideye: Created some attacking threat in the second half when he replaced Berahino, but Lovren kept him relatively quiet. (5/10)

Chris Baird: Entered the field of play with around 10 minutes left to go and had little impact on the game. (5/10)

Goal

Simon Mignolet: Did not have too much to do in the game overall, but he made some decent stops when called upon. In the second half, he needed the help of Lovren to clear off the line after Morrison's header flew past him. (7/10)

Defence

Glen Johnson: Was almost caught napping when a cross flew into the box searching for Gardner, but, fortunately for the defender, the West Brom man's effort hit the side-netting. In attack, he managed to get a few crosses in, but they came to nothing. (6/10)

Dejan Lovren: Has faced criticism throughout his Liverpool career so far, but he looked composed in the defensive line this afternoon. If it was not for his clearance off the line, the Reds would have conceded. Came close to scoring with a header in the final minute of the game. (8/10)

Martin Skrtel: His poor clearance allowed Morrison to get a header at goal, but, other than that, the centre-back was relatively untroubled. (7/10)

Emre Can: The German flitted to and from right-back to midfield and tried to get things moving in terms of an attacking sense, but his lack of pace let him down on occasions. (6/10)

Midfield

Jordon Ibe: Came the closes to scoring following an impressive run, but his effort clattered off the crossbar. He made some surging runs into the box, but at 19, the youngster showed that there is still room for improvement. (6/10)

Steven Gerrard: Made his 500th Premier League appearance for Liverpool, but had little impact in the first half as he sat deep. Had more of an influence in attack once he pushed forward in the second half. Came close with a free kick in the first 45 minutes, but it was not to be. (7/10)

Jordan Henderson: Got involved in attacks when he could, but the England international, who signed a new contract this week, did not have as big of an impact on the game as he probably would have liked. (6/10)

Attack

Raheem Sterling: Played out on the wing and showed glimpses of the skill that he possesses, but he struggled to get into the game. He linked up well with Coutinho at times, but it was not his day. (5/10)

Philippe Coutinho: Arguably Liverpool's best player on the pitch, despite none of them really standing out this afternoon. He tried a few long-range efforts, but he struggled to find a way through West Brom's defensive shape. (7/10)

Mario Balotelli: Committed a well-timed tackle to win the ball back in the first half, but, overall, his desire was lacking. Failed to get himself into dangerous positions and did not always make the runs when required. (4/10)

Substitutes

Adam Lallana: Spent a month out with a groin injury, but made his return from the bench by replacing Ibe in the second half. With 15 minutes to go, the former Southampton man tried to get something out of the game for Liverpool, but he made little impact. (5/10)

Fabio Borini: Replaced Balotelli in the second half, but failed to cause much of a threat up top. (4/10)
