Roberto Martinez disappointed with Andre Marriner performance

Everton boss Roberto Martinez claims that Manchester City should have ended the game with nine men following their Premier League win over the Toffees.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez has slammed referee Andre Marriner for failing to give Manchester City defender Eliaquim Mangala a red card in Saturday's 1-0 defeat.

The Frenchman caught Samuel Eto'o in the back with his studs during the first half at the Etihad Stadium, while Martinez was also disappointed to see Fernando get away with a "high boot" on Gareth Barry.

Both players were given yellow cards for their respective fouls, but Martinez feels that Marriner - who earlier awarded City a decisive penalty - was too lenient on the hosts.

"I'm very, very disappointed. The first one is no doubt," he told Sky Sports News.

"The contact is horrific, that's a violent action and that wasn't a natural position to justify that angle.

"That should have been given a red card. Fernando's is a high boot, dangerous play, but what we are feeling harshly done by is that three big calls went against us."

Everton sit 11th in the Premier League table following the defeat - their fourth in succession at Eastlands.
