Raphael Varane, Harry Maguire among the absentees for Manchester United against Omonia

Raphael Varane is ruled out of Manchester United's Europa League clash with Omonia in Cyprus on Thursday night.

Raphael Varane will not feature in Manchester United's Europa League clash with Omonia on Thursday evening due to the ankle problem that the centre-back picked up in the Manchester derby.

The France international had to be replaced in the latter stages of the first half against Manchester City following a twist to his ankle.

Varane has been left out of the squad for the European contest in Cyprus, but head coach Erik ten Hag said during his pre-match press conference that he was hopeful of having the centre-back available again soon.

Harry Maguire was missing against Man City due to a hamstring problem that he picked up while representing England during the international break.

The club captain is also absent for this game, while Donny van de Beek and Aaron Wan-Bissaka have not made the trip due to their own injury issues.

"They are unavailable for tomorrow," said Ten Hag when asked whether Varane, Maguire, Van de Beek or Wan-Bissaka would be making the trip to Cyprus.

"Yes, in the case of Rapha, I have good hope [that he comes back soon]. Harry will take a little bit longer. The other two, I cannot give a prognosis."

The squad has been boosted by the return of fit-again Martin Dubravka, though, and the goalkeeper will be hoping to make his first appearance for the club following a loan move from Newcastle United.

Anthony Martial, who scored twice off the bench in the 6-3 loss to Man City, will also make the trip for the 20-time English champions.

Ten Hag's defensive options are limited, with Victor Lindelof, Lisandro Martinez, Tyrell Malacia, Diogo Dalot and Luke Shaw the only five defenders making the trip.

Zidane Iqbal has been included as a midfield option for the Red Devils, while fit-again Facundo Pellistri is included in attack, which is also the case for Alejandro Garnacho.

Cristiano Ronaldo is also present, and the Portugal international will be hoping to be back in the side, having been an unused substitute against Man City at the weekend.

The 37-year-old's only goal of the 2022-23 campaign came against Sheriff Tiraspol in the competition last time out, and Man United will be bidding to move onto six points in Group E when they tackle Neil Lennon's side.

Man United squad vs. Omonia:

De Gea, Heaton, Dubravka; Lindelof, Martinez, Malacia, Dalot, Shaw; Fernandes, Eriksen, Fred, Casemiro, McTominay, Iqbal; Ronaldo, Martial, Rashford, Antony, Sancho, Pellistri, Elanga, Garnacho body check tags ::
