Premier League in numbers: Week 34 preview

Sports Mole previews this weekend's Premier League action, with the aid of a selection of statistics from all 10 games taking place.

Just one more month of the Premier League season remains, yet the battle to avoid relegation does not look any nearer to being resolved.

Leicester City have won three games on the bounce to climb off the bottom of the table for the first time since November, and they can potentially pull themselves out of the drop zone this afternoon should they beat bottom side Burnley.

Fellow strugglers Queens Park Rangers, Hull City and Sunderland take on West Ham United, Crystal Palace and Stoke City respectively, while Aston Villa are still not safe themselves as they prepare to face champions Manchester City.

Manuel Pellegrini's men have slipped well off the pace in recent months, meaning that Chelsea can move within three points of the title this weekend should they overcome Arsenal in the top flight's main event.

Elsewhere, Manchester United will be looking to find the winning touch once again when they visit Everton; Mauricio Pochettino will return to his old Southampton hunting ground; Newcastle United will hope that their six-game losing run ends when they host Swansea City; and Liverpool's hunt for a top-four spot continues with a trip to West Bromwich Albion.

Here, Sports Mole takes a look ahead to the 34th round of fixtures, with a selection of statistics from all 10 games to whet the appetite.

Southampton vs. Tottenham Hotspur

Southampton have allowed fewer shots on target against them than any other team in the Premier League (93).

Tottenham have won their last five league games against the Saints after losing four of the preceding five meetings.

If only second halves of Premier League games counted this season, Saints would be second in the table behind only Chelsea.

Southampton have scored just eight goals in their last 11 Premier League matches.

Burnley vs. Leicester City

Burnley are without a win in eight league meetings with Leicester, drawing three and losing five.

The Clarets have mustered just one goal in their last 10 hours and 39 minutes of league football.

Leicester were bottom of the table for 140 days before last weekend's win over Swansea; no team has ever been bottom for that long in a single PL season and not been relegated.

The Foxes have scored in the final five minutes in each of their last four Premier League games, with two of these goals being winners.

Crystal Palace vs. Hull City

Palace have recovered more points from losing positions than any other team in the Premier League this season (18).

The Eagles have committed more fouls than any other team in the top-flight this season (447).

Hull have only ever won one of their 14 Prem games in the month of April (W1 D3 L10).

Palace have kept just one clean sheet in 13 league games since Alan Pardew took charge.

Newcastle United vs. Swansea City

Against no side have Newcastle played more Premier League home games without a win than they have against the Swans (three, level with Hull).

Since John Carver took charge of Newcastle, only QPR (eight) have won fewer points than the Magpies (nine, level with Sunderland).

St James' Park is the only Premier League ground yet to see a penalty awarded this season.

Nathan Dyer has not scored or assisted a single top-flight goal in 15 appearances since December 2, 2014.

Queens Park Rangers vs. West Ham United

QPR have allowed more shots on target against them than any other team in the Premier League (181).

The Hammers are without a win in nine away league games (D4 L5); only Burnley (10) are on a longer run without an away victory.

Rangers have conceded the first goal on 24 occasions in the Premier League this season; more often than any other side.

The Hoops have won just one point in nine Premier League London derbies this season (D1 L8).

Stoke City vs. Sunderland

There have been six red cards in 13 Premier League meetings between these sides, with the Potters on the wrong end of four of them.

Stoke have kept only four clean sheets in their last 18 Prem home games.

Mame Biram Diouf has scored in each of his last three Premier League appearances at the Britannia Stadium.

Sunderland have won just one of their last nine games (W1 D3 L5).

West Bromwich Albion vs. Liverpool

After failing to score in their first nine Premier League meetings with Liverpool, West Brom have scored in seven of their last eight.

Tony Pulis has never lost a top-flight home game against Liverpool (W3 D3).

Steven Gerrard would become the 12th player in history to make 500 PL appearances, should he play this match.

If only goals from English players counted, Liverpool would top the table on 65 points.

Manchester City vs. Aston Villa

City have won more Premier League games (20) and scored more goals (65) against Aston Villa than against any other team.

The Villans have scored just six second-half goals all term; the PL record-low for a season is 11, last set by Derby County in 2007-08.

Yaya Toure has scored in his last three league appearances against Villa.

Villa have picked up more red cards than any other team in the top flight this season (seven).

Everton vs. Manchester United

Everton have dropped more points from winning positions than any other team in the Premier League this season (19).

United have won just three of their last nine away league games (D4 L2).

The Toffees have lost 31 Premier League games against United; four more than against any other opponent.

Radamel Falcao has not managed to fire a single shot on target in his last eight outings for Man Utd, despite playing 355 minutes in these games.

Arsenal vs. Chelsea

Olivier Giroud has scored 10 goals in his last 12 matches in all competitions.

Arsene Wenger has lost just five competitive home games by a 3+ goal margin during his tenure as Arsenal manager; three of which have come against Chelsea.

Jose Mourinho has never lost as an opposition coach against Arsene Wenger in any competition (W7 D5).

Chelsea have kept four clean sheets in their last six clashes with the Gunners, conceding just two goals in total.
