Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag has revealed that Anthony Martial will again be absent for the Red Devils in Sunday's Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur.

The 28-year-old has not been involved for the 20-time English champions since being replaced in the early stages of the second period against Bournemouth on December 9.

Martial has missed the team's last six matches in all competitions, with Ten Hag previously stating that the Frenchman has been out with an illness.

There was thought to be a chance of the former Monaco youngster returning to the squad against Spurs, but Man United's head coach has said that the forward is "having medical treatment".

"We have to make him fit and it is his job as well to get ready for the next game. But in this moment he is having medical treatment and he has to recover," Ten Hag told reporters during his press conference on Friday.

Martial has been a regular for the Red Devils this season, making 19 appearances in all competitions, but he has only managed to score twice and register two assists.

The forward's contract at Old Trafford is due to expire this summer, and he is set to leave on a free transfer at the end of the campaign unless a January departure can be agreed.

A recent report claimed that Martial had rejected winter interest from Fenerbahce and Marseille, in addition to clubs from the Saudi Pro League, as he wants to finish the season at Man United.

The Frenchman has represented the 20-time English champions on 317 occasions in all competitions since arriving from Monaco in the summer of 2015, scoring 90 times and providing 55 assists in the process.

Man United could welcome six players back into their squad against Spurs, though, with Luke Shaw, Lisandro Martinez, Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, Antony and Amad Diallo all in line to return.

"Definitely different, so I think they complement they way they played, he (Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou) changed the environment there, they're really proactive, very enjoyable to watch them with a lot of dynamics, very proactive," Ten Hag added when questioned on Tottenham.

"They combine it with good results but also when we played them over there and I think that's what we can take belief out of that. In the first 35 minutes we dominated them, we should have gone in the lead but we didn't so we have to make our own luck and take control of the game and finish the chances."

Man United have won 10, drawn one and lost nine of their 20 Premier League matches this season to collect 31 points, which has left them in eighth position in the table.

The Red Devils are nine points behind fourth-placed Arsenal, while they sit eight from fifth-placed Tottenham ahead of the clash between the two sides on Sunday afternoon.
