Newcastle United have ended their run of eight straight defeats by coming from behind to seal a 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion at St James' Park.

Three points were the main target for the Magpies as they try to steer clear of the relegation zone, but this afternoon's result has kept them two points above the drop in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, West Brom have extended their unbeaten run to three games and are already comfortably safe in 13th place.

Below, Sports Mole gives a rating out of 10 to all of the players who featured in today's game.

Goal

Tim Krul: Aside from a poorly-timed move off his line, the Dutchman looked comfortable in between the sticks and made a decent save to deny West Brom a potential winning goal in the second half. (8/10)

Defence

Fabricio Coloccini: The Argentine made the headlines this week by penning an open letter, calling for the fans to stand by the team, and he put on a reliable display in defence and managed to take the sting out of a Berahino shot with a well-timed block. (8/10)

Ryan Taylor: In charge of Newcastle's set pieces and delivered some decent crosses into the box, getting an assist for the equalising goal. He did, however, struggle slightly when up against West Brom's attacking threat. (7/10)

Paul Dummett: Required to play out of position at centre-back and he did a fine job keeping Anichebe and Berahino at bay when called upon. He showed his strength with some towering headers and put in some decent tackles. (9/10)

Vurnon Anita: Did well on occasions getting forward, but, in his defensive role, the Dutchman allowed too many crosses to come in. He appeared to hobble off with an injury towards the end of the second half. (5/10)

Midfield

Jack Colback: His influential style was missing a bit today as he had a rather quiet game on home turf. He gave the ball away cheaply on occasions in the second half, but looked more solid as the game went on. (6/10)

Jonas Gutierrez: Only managed to get in attacking positions in the second half, but put in a hard-working performance. (6/10)

Remy Cabella Had plenty of the ball when Newcastle were going forward. His quick feet deceived the Baggies' defence at times, but his final touch was lacking that killer quality. He could have scored with a header in the second half, but he was penalised for pushing McAuley. (7/10)

Moussa Sissoko: Had a few chances at goal and got himself into good positions in the 18-yard area. Like his teammates, his clinical touch was missing. (7/10)

Attack

Ayoze Perez: An individual piece of skill from the Spaniard resulted in a crucial equaliser for the Magpies before the end of the first half, but he looked frustrated at times. (7/10)

Emmanuel Riviere: Failed to make much of an impact for the home side and was easily dominated by the Albion defence. (5/10)

Substitutes

Papiss Cisse: Received a huge roar from the home crowd when he made his appearance off the bench and, while he showed glimpses of quality, it was clear that his match fitness is not quite there yet. (6/10)

Sammy Ameobi: Had the chance to score with an impressive scissor kick, but he missed the target. Overall, he looked positive going forward, but did not have enough time to make a difference. (6/10)

Mehdi Abeid: Brought on just to run the clock down in added time. (5/10)

Goal

Boaz Myhill: An impressive display in goal as he made numerous saves and looked controlled and composed in his box throughout the game. (8/10)

Defence

Joleon Lescott: Used his defensive abilities more than his attacking attributes this afternoon, but he was regularly on hand to clear any danger that came his way. (6/10)

Craig Dawson: Had the task of trying to keep Cabella at bay and most of the time was successful. Also looked strong within the back four. (7/10)

Gareth McAuley: Looked uncomfortable during periods of the game and struggled to always track the runs of Riviere when he was on the pitch. (5/10)

Jonas Olsson: Was reliable at the back and rarely looked troubled when Newcastle were on the attack. (8/10)

Midfield

Chris Brunt: Came achingly close to putting his side 2-1 ahead, and was also comfortable helping out in defensive duties. (7/10)

Claudio Yacob: Kept things ticking in midfield for the Baggies and put in some well-timed challenges to thwart Newcastle's attack. (8/10)

Darren Fletcher: Relatively quiet throughout, but carried out his job in the middle of the park with ease when West Brom were in possession. (6/10)

Craig Gardner: Decent on set-piece duty and also nabbed an assist for Anichebe's goal in the first half. He had a good chance to score himself, but he smashed the ball into the side-netting. (7/10)

Youssouf Mulumbu: Used his physicality to muscle out opponents, but he was substituted early in the second half after failing to make much of an impact in possession. (5/10)

Attack:

Victor Anichebe: His job was to hold the ball up and get into decent positions, which he carried out well. Used his power and physical presence to get to the ball first when he scored the first-half header. (8/10)

Substitutes

James Morrison: Unable to cause much of a threat going forward when he entered the pitch in the second half as Newcastle were on the front foot for the majority of it. (6/10)

Saido Berahino: Came close to nabbing a second goal for the Baggies in the second half, but his attempt could have been better. He put Newcastle's defenders on alert when he came on, but failed to score. (7/10)

Calum McManaman: Was almost wiped out by a tackle from Taylor shortly after coming on. Was unable to make a big enough impact to alter the outcome. (6/10)
