Paris Saint-Germain win the 2017-18 Trophee des Champions after recording a 2-1 victory over AS Monaco in Tangier on Saturday night.

Paris Saint-Germain have won the 2017-18 Trophee des Champions after recording a 2-1 victory over AS Monaco in the Moroccan city of Tangier on Saturday night.

Djibril Sidibe had sent Monaco into a first-half lead against their rivals, but second-half efforts from Dani Alves and Adrien Rabiot saw PSG earn the bragging rights ahead of the start of the new Ligue 1 season next weekend.

Kylian Mbappe and Thomas Lemar both started for Monaco despite widespread speculation surrounding their future, but it was French defender Sidibe that sent the principality outfit ahead in the 30th minute, with the 25-year-old collecting a brilliant pass from Youri Tielemans before chipping the ball over Alphonse Areola from the edge of the box.

PSG should have levelled late in the first period when an Alves free kick caused panic inside the Monaco box, but Brazilian defender Marquinhos somehow failed to convert from the edge of the six-yard box.

Unai Emery's side did level the scores in the 51st minute, however, when summer arrival Alves sent a brilliant free kick into the top-left corner after Sidibe had picked up a yellow card for a rash challenge on Layvin Kurzawa.

Monaco were fortunate to escape a red card in the 53rd minute when Kamil Glik brought Edinson Cavani to the ground just outside the penalty area, but Leonardo Jardim's side were struggling to contain PSG, and the capital giants took the lead in the 63rd minute when Rabiot headed a brilliant Alves cross into the top corner of the net.

Radamel Falcao might have levelled in the 88th minute when he met a deep cross from Lemar, but the experienced forward headed wide of the post as PSG survived a late spell of pressure to record a 2-1 success.

PSG have now won the Trophee des Champions on seven occasions, including in each of the last five years.
