Rio Ferdinand: 'Champions League another hurdle Tottenham have failed to get over'

Rio Ferdinand claims that Tottenham Hotspur's Champions League exit adds to the 'hurdles' that the club have failed to clear in recent seasons.

Rio Ferdinand has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur need to mentally bounce back from their Champions League disappointment.

Mauricio Pochettino's men were beaten 4-3 by Juventus on aggregate in their last-16 tie after relinquishing the lead at Wembley.

In the second leg this evening, Son Heung-min gave Spurs a 3-2 advantage by scoring in the first half, but Gonzalo Higuain and Paulo Dybala found the back of the net inside three minutes after the break to send Juve into the quarter-finals.

The disappointment for Tottenham follows back-to-back seasons of failing to maintain a title challenge in the Premier League.

While carrying out punditry duties on BT Sport, Ferdinand said: "This is yet another hurdle that they haven't got over. Mentally they've got to be able to come back from this. We've mentioned the foundations that they're building at this football club, but these are the moments that they need to get over."

Tottenham's only realistic chance of silverware this season is winning the FA Cup.
