Sports Mole previews Monday's Argentine Primera Division clash between Tigre and Barracas Central, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Barracas Central will be bidding to stretch their unbeaten run in the Argentine Primera Division to six matches when they travel to Tigre on Monday.

The visitors will enter the match off the back of a goalless draw with Argentinos Juniors, while Tigre were in Copa Sudamericana action last time out, suffering a 2-1 defeat to Libertad.

Match preview

Tigre have work to do if they are to advance to the last-16 stage of the Copa Sudamericana, having suffered a 2-1 defeat to Libertad in the first leg of their last-32 contest.

The Northern Blues will have the chance to turn the tie around in the second leg on July 20, but their immediate focus is on the league, with the team bidding to make it back-to-back domestic successes.

Indeed, Juan Sara's side recorded a 1-0 victory over Instituto in the Argentine Primera Division last time out, which ended a run of three straight defeats in all competitions.

Tigre have picked up 28 points from their 24 league matches this season, boasting a record of seven wins, seven draws and 10 defeats, which has left them down in 19th position in the table.

Sara's side will certainly have one eye on their Copa Sudamericana last-32 second leg with Libertad, but a win on Monday would move them level on points with Barracas in the table.

Indeed, the visitors have a record of seven wins, 10 draws and seven defeats from their 24 league matches this season, which has seen them pick up 31 points to occupy 15th position.

Rodolfo de Paoli's side will bring a five-game unbeaten run into this match, picking up seven points from their last three league fixtures against River Plate, Belgrano and Argentinos Juniors.

The recent 2-1 victory over division leaders River Plate would certainly have boosted confidence in the camp, and the match with Tigre comes ahead of a Copa Argentina last-32 clash with Boca Juniors.

Barracas have only actually lost one of their last 11 matches in the top flight of Argentine football, while they have only been beaten on one occasion away from home in the league since the start of April.

Team News

Tigre will be missing three players through injury for this contest, with Sebastian Prediger, Victor Cabrera and Alexis Castro on the sidelines.

Mateo Retegui has been the team's main source of goals this season, netting 12 times in all competitions, and the 24-year-old will again continue in the final third of the field.

Abel Luciatti is actually the second-highest goalscorer from central defence, registering four times, and the 30-year-old will also be in the starting side for Tigre.

Barracas, meanwhile, also have three players on the sidelines through injury, with Lucas Lopez out for the remainder of the campaign with a serious knee injury.

Fernando Prado is still missing due to a broken toe, and Ricardo Centurion remains out, with the forward yet to recover from a troublesome thigh issue.

Bruno Sepulveda has found the back of the net on five occasions for Barracas during the current season, and the 30-year-old should operate in the final third of the field for this match.

Tigre possible starting lineup:
Marinelli; Ortega, Leizza, Aguilera, Prieto; Garay, Menossi, Flores, Cardozo, Molinas; Retegui

Barracas Central possible starting lineup:
Desabato; Peinipil, Alvarez, Diaz, Insua; Arce, Herrera; Mater, Tapia, Calderara; Sepulveda

We say: Tigre 1-1 Barracas Central

There is not an awful lot between these two sides in terms of quality, and while Barracas will enter the match in the stronger form, we are expecting a very close match on Monday. A case could be made for either to win it, but we have ultimately had to settle on a low-scoring draw here.
