Liverpool Women will look to bounce back from a Merseyside Derby defeat when they travel to the capital for Sunday's Women's Super League meeting with West Ham United Women.

The Hammers are also hoping to produce a positive response after they were beaten by reigning WSL champions Chelsea.

Match preview

Rehanne Skinner has experienced a mixed start to her tenure as West Ham boss, with her opening four competitive matches producing two wins and two defeats.

After losing to Manchester City in their league opener, the Hammers got up and running with a 2-0 away win over Brighton & Hove Albion.

They followed that result with a narrow 2-1 victory over Charlton Athletic in the League Cup, but they were unable to make it three consecutive victories in their meeting with Chelsea last weekend.

Goals from Sam Kerr and Erin Cuthbert condemned West Ham to a 2-0 defeat, leaving them in ninth place ahead of Sunday's clash with Liverpool.

Having failed to win any of their last seven home league games, West Ham will be desperate to claim their first home victory since November 2022.

Liverpool, who are sitting in fifth position, are three points better off than their hosts after winning two of their opening three WSL matches.

The Reds opened their campaign with an impressive 1-0 away win over Arsenal, before they recorded a 2-0 home victory against Aston Villa.

After making an impressive start, Liverpool have experienced a downturn in fortunes in their last two competitive matches.

A 2-1 loss to Leicester City in the League Cup was followed by a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Everton in last weekend's Merseyside Derby at Anfield.

Despite losing to their local rivals in their most recent outing, the Reds do have the chance to claim consecutive away victories in the WSL for the first time since 2018.

Team News

Defender Hawa Cissoko is a fitness concern for the hosts after being forced off in the closing stages of the 2-0 defeat to Chelsea.

If Cissoko is passed fit for Sunday's contest, she will take her place in the back three alongside Risa Shimizu and Shannon Cooke.

Abbey-Leigh Stringer, who started the first two league games of the season, could be brought back into the West Ham midfield after being left on the bench last weekend.

As for the visitors, Leanne Kiernan and Shanice van de Sanden have returned to team training, but the pair remain unavailable for Sunday's encounter.

They are joined on the absentee list by Liverpool captain Niamh Fahey, who is continuing to recover from a calf injury.

Natasha Flint has scored two goals in four competitive appearances, and the summer signing could be presented with her first WSL start as a Liverpool player.

West Ham United Women possible starting lineup:
Arnold; Shimizu, Cissoko, Cooke; Denton, Hayashi, Stringer, Smith; Evans, Asseyi, Ueki

Liverpool Women possible starting lineup:
Laws; Clark, Bonner, Fisk; Koivisto, Hobinger, Nagano, Hinds; Holland; Kearns, Flint

We say: West Ham United Women 1-1 Liverpool Women

West Ham will be desperate to end their seven-game winless home in the WSL, but we think that they will be held to a draw by a Liverpool side that took four points off them last season.
