Sports Mole previews Sunday's Turkish Super Lig clash between Yeni Malatyaspor and Caykur Rizespor, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Two sides already condemned to relegation to Turkey's second tier will do battle on Sunday, as Yeni Malatyaspor host Caykur Rizespor.

With just 20 points to their name all season, the hosts find themselves stuck at the foot of the Turkish Super Lig table, while a win last time out was not enough to keep the visitors' survival hopes alive.

Match preview

Looking at the league table, it almost goes without saying that Yeni Malatyaspor have had to endure a dismal campaign in Turkey's top flight, as they have amassed just 20 points from 35 league outings.

Their form has been particularly poor since late October, with YMS having now won just one of their last 25 league games and picked up nine points in that spell.

The lone victory since late last year came as somewhat of a surprise as they beat high-flying Adana Demirspor at the beginning of March, but they have since gone on to suffer another seven defeats on the bounce, with their relegation confirmed along the way.

If anything, the confirmation of their drop may have given Cihat Arslan's side some freedom, as they have, at least, battled more commendably in the last two games, firstly challenging Konyaspor for the duration of their meeting and eventually losing 3-2.

They most recently met fifth-placed Alanyaspor, and, after only a narrow 2-1 defeat away from home, Yeni Malatyaspor should feel a sense of pride and will aim to stop their losing run before the end of the campaign to truly bow out on a relative high note.

Their visitors, meanwhile, still stood a slight chance of survival until recently, having now seen their relegation confirmed.

A surprise 2-1 win over Konyaspor in early April kept Caykur Rizespor in the fight for survival, provided that they could build a run of victories on the back of that, but they were unable to do so, firstly drawing with Kayserispor before being thrashed 6-0 by Fenerbahce.

The Karadeniz Atmacasi most recently took on Goztepe last week, in a clash between two sides almost certain to be relegated, but they still put up an eye-catching display, dishing out a 7-1 thrashing as Gedson Fernandes hit a brace alongside goals from Papiss Cisse, Yusuf Sari, Joel Pohjanpalo and Ronaldo Mendes as well as an early own goal.

Nonetheless, a draw for Gaziantep on the same day meant Caykur Rizespor went 10 points adrift of safety with just three games to play, officially sending them down to the second tier as a result.

Now with nothing left to lose, the Karadeniz Atmacasi will look to replicate last week's performance and seal another big win to end the term on a positive note before planning their return to the top flight next year.

Team News

Yeni Malatyaspor will come into the game without right-back Kenan Ozer, who is suspended after he was shown a red card last weekend.

However, centre-back Gaston Campi could return to the back four after serving a suspension of his own last time out.

Key forward Benjamin Tetteh is a doubt due to a knock, and former Wolves attacker Nouha Dicko could lead the line in his absence after getting on the scoresheet last time out.

Caykur Rizespor have a suspension of their own to deal with, as midfielder Fabricio Baiano is ruled out of Sunday's meeting.

Star midfielder Gedson Fernandes was forced off due to a knock after scoring a brace last time out, and he is expected to be a doubt.

Finnish international Joel Pohjanpalo will continue to lead the attack, having been a shining light in their poor season with 15 goals to his name in 30 Super Lig appearances.

Yeni Malatyaspor possible starting lineup:
Damlu; Sarikaya, Campi, Awuku, Basdas; Cagiran, Ulas, Donsah; Eskihellac, Dicko, Osman

Caykur Rizespor possible starting lineup:
Akkan; Gonul, Holmen, Ponck, Albayrak; Phiri; Sari, Mendes, Sabo, Bolasie; Pohjanpalo

We say: Yeni Malatyaspor 2-3 Caykur Rizespor

Caykur Rizespor could come in with confidence following their big win last time out, while Yeni Malatyaspor have fought bravely recently, and we envisage an exciting and high-scoring affair.

Ultimately, we do not see the struggling hosts taking a share of the spoils, but they should play their part in an entertaining contest.
