The sale of Oscar to Chinese club Shanghai SIPG helped Premier League champions Chelsea balance the books during the fiscal year ending June 30, 2017.

Chelsea have revealed that they made an operating loss for the year they spent outside of the Champions League, but posted an overall profit of £15.3m.

The Blues largely made up for missing out on a place in European football's showpiece competition through the sale of Oscar, who joined Chinese club Shanghai SIPG for £60m in January.

Overall Chelsea reported a profit of £69.2m on player trading for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2017, while their turnover increased by 9.8% to £361.3m, likely down to the bigger share of Premier League television revenue.

The figures also show a fall in matchday revenues for 2016-17, again because of their absence from the Champions League, but that figure will climb for the current campaign.

Several new commercial partnerships also helped provide an income boost, meanwhile, including a £30m deal with Thai energy company Carabao.
