Head coach Eddie Jones says that England remain capable of defeating Australia on away territory despite naming an injury-hit squad for the upcoming three-match series.

Jones has selected a 36-man squad ahead of the three international fixtures down under, eight of the group having not earned an official cap for the senior national team.

Patrick Schickerling, Henry Arundell, Will Joseph, Fraser Dingwall, Tommy Freeman, Guy Porter, Jack van Poortvliet, and Jack Walker are the newcomers to the squad ahead of one of the most notable fixtures on the calendar.

Two of those players - Freeman and Walker - started Sunday's 52-21 defeat to the Barbarians on Sunday, but their appearances do not count as caps.

Nevertheless, regardless of that defeat and selecting an inexperienced squad, Jones is confident about his team's chances ahead of the first Test on July 2.

Speaking on his selection, as quoted by BBC Sport, Jones said: "Though we have ten players unavailable due to injury, we have picked a very strong squad capable of winning the series. This squad is a real mix of young, talented players and some very experienced, senior players and we're looking forward to bring the group together.

"This tour will be a great experience for the group and a crucial part of the team's work towards the Rugby World Cup in 2023. We will continue to develop the base of the squad and how we want to play.

"We've put a lot of work into preparation for the tour over the past few weeks but now the hard work really begins when we finally get the squad on the plane and to Australia."

Thirty-five-year-old Danny Care has been named in the squad, the veteran scrum-half in line to make his first international outing since 2018.

Billy Vunipola also stands to feature for the first time since the 2021 Six Nations, but Henry Slade, Manu Tuilagi, Sam Simmonds, Kyle Sinckler, Louis Lynagh, Anthony Watson, Alex Dombrandt and George Ford are all sidelined through injury.

Squad in full:

Ollie Chessum, Luke Cowan-Dickie , Tom Curry, Charlie Ewels, Ellis Genge, Jamie George, Joe Heyes, Jonny Hill, Nick Isiekwe, Maro Itoje, Courtney Lawes , Lewis Ludlam, Bevan Rodd, Patrick Schickerling, Will Stuart, Sam Underhill, Billy Vunipola, Mako Vunipola, Jack Walker, Jack Willis, Henry Arundell, Danny Care, Joe Cokanasiga, Fraser Dingwall, Owen Farrell, Tommy Freeman, George Furbank, Will Joseph, Joe Marchant, Jonny May, Jack Nowell, Guy Porter, Harry Randall, Jack van Poortvliet, Marcus Smith, Freddie Steward body check tags ::
