England forwards coach Graham Rowntree believes that Ben Morgan is in the "shape of his life" as he closes in on full fitness after breaking his leg in January.

England forwards coach Graham Rowntree has claimed that Ben Morgan is in impressive condition as he continues to recover from a broken leg.

The Gloucester number eight suffered the injury against Saracens in January and was forced to watch Billy Vunipola deliver a number of fine performances in the Six Nations as he began his rehabilitation.

However, Morgan is making good progress as he battles for a spot in Stuart Lancaster's World Cup squad, and Rowntree believes that the 26-year-old will be involved in the first warm-up match against France on August 15.

"Ben is in the shape of his life. He's had a pretty good pre-season – it started in January! He's working exceptionally hard daily with the medical team and his leg is coming on nicely," he told reporters.

"He's been working with us for just under four years and has put in some big performances for us.

"We've got some real competition in that area now and to have him available is a luxury for us. We'll give him all the helps he needs, mentally and physically."

Morgan has won 32 caps since his England debut in 2012.
