Gloucester Rugby have confirmed the signing of Welsh international James Hook from Perpignan.

The 28-year-old playmaker is understood to have penned a three-year deal with the Aviva Premiership club.

Gloucester are thought to have invoked a release clause in Hook's contract to bring him to Kingsholm Stadium following Perpignan's relegation from the Top 14 last season.

"The talent in the squad is terrific, the training facilities are top notch and it's a wonderful area for myself and my family to settle in," he told Gloucester's official website.

"I had a taste of the Kingsholm atmosphere last season when I played here for Perpignan. That was phenomenal and I can't wait to experience that again.

"The prospect of playing for Gloucester in the Aviva Premiership is massively exciting. It's a new challenge, but one I'm looking forward to hugely. I can't wait to get started."

Hook, who has won 75 caps for Wales, is due to fly out to South Africa with the national team on Thursday for their summer tour.
