Warren Gatland: "We should have won by more"

Wales coach Warren Gatland believes that his side should have beaten South Africa by more than six points in their final Autumn International in Cardiff.

Warren Gatland has said that Wales should have finished with a greater winning margin in their Autumn International win over South Africa this afternoon.

Leigh Halfpenny kicked all the points for the hosts as they secured a 12-6 win, which is just their second against one of the major southern hemisphere nations since Gatland took charge.

He told BBC Sport: "We should have won by more. We've pushed the big three pretty close in this campaign. We couldn't get across the line for two of those games, but we've done it today.

"You don't want to be in our coach's box. We made it tough for ourselves. If we'd taken a few opportunities, we'd have won the game more comfortably. We showed a lot of character and I'm very proud of the boys.

"We try to communicate to the media and the public that these two campaigns are about the World Cup, because that's what we're going to be judged on. We're a long way down the road and we'll get better."

The win is Wales's second from their four autumn matches, with the other coming against Fiji earlier this month.
