Atlanta Falcons head coach Dan Quinn is hopeful that linebacker Sean Weatherspoon will re-sign with the club to become the focal point of his new-look defense.
The 27-year-old missed the 2014 season due to an Achilles injury, while he was limited to just seven games in the 2013 campaign with a Lisfranc problem.
However, Quinn believes that Weatherspoon can put his injuries behind him as he is adamant that the linebacker is a perfect fit for his system, should he remain with the club.
He told ESPN: "With him, it's that toughness and the speed that he can play with so, yes, definitely someone that we're talking to.
"I know he's got that kind of attitude. And you know me, just from watching our style of defense, it's fast and physical. And that's what Sean is. So, we're certainly hoping that he can be a big part of it moving forward."
Weatherspoon has recorded 290 tackles, eight sacks and two interceptions in his five years in the NFL.
