The Baltimore Ravens had kicker Justin Tucker to thank for their 19-3 victory over the New York Jets at M&T Bank Stadium.
Both sides were struggling early on to get distance with their drives and indeed it was the third possession of the game that Nick Folk kicked a field goal for the first points.
The Ravens responded quickly, however, and although they were unable to get a touchdown with their next drive, Tucker made no mistake with his 30-yard kick.
In a tight game the second quarter was crucial and although Joe Flacco did his best to throw it away, the Ravens got themselves on top.
Tucker put a 26-yard and a 33-yard goal between the posts as the Ravens were ahead courtesy mainly of a tight defense against the Jets' drives.
The strong Jets defense was remaining able to stop key plays at the right time, but their offense were finding little joy even after the break.
Tucker, who was quickly becoming the key player on the field, kicked again from a huge 53 yards after a short and unsuccessful drive by Flacco.
The Ravens QB finally began to find his game and pinged a wonderful pass downfield to Jacoby Jones, who reeled it in and got to the end zone right before the end of the quarter.
Geno Smith was really struggling with his passing game on the night and the lack of options ahead of him was summed up by his early sack at the start of the final quarter, which forced a punt to give up possession straight away.
The Jets could not get any momentum for the rest of the game and their three points are a disappointing return for a team who were 5-5 before the game.
