Two big offensive plays in the final quarter were enough for the Kansas City Chiefs to beat the Buffalo Bills to record their fourth successive win.

A pair of fourth quarter rushing touchdowns from Jamaal Charles and Alex Smith were enough to give the Kansas City Chiefs a 17-13 win over the Buffalo Bills in New York.

Bills wide receiver Chris Hogan scored the second touchdown of his career to kick things off, collecting a 25-yard pass from quarterback Kyle Orton.

Cairo Santos converted a field goal to get the Chiefs on the board before the end of the first quarter, but a Dan Carpenter kick for the hosts was the only other score as half time approached.

Things got more interesting after the break, when it looked as though Bryce Brown was going to extend the home side's lead.

However, the ball was knocked from his grasp at the 5-yard line and it bobbled into the endzone. Though Scott Chandler attempted to recover, he failed to grab on to the ball and a touchback was awarded to the Chiefs.

On their next offensive drive, the Bills had to settle for another Carpenter field goal, and 13-3 was the way it stayed until the fourth quarter.

Finally, at the beginning of the last, Charles supplied the game with its first big offensive play of the day, carrying the ball for 39 yards into the endzone to give his side a way back into the clash.

With the Bills rattled, Chiefs quarterback Smith seized his own opportunity to follow Charles's lead, bursting in for six points himself with under 10 minutes remaining.

Though the Chiefs looked likely to hold on to their lead, Orton fought back and drove the Bills downfield. With his team in the red zone, the quarterback failed with four pass attempts - the final one almost being picked off by the visiting defense.

With the ball back in their hands, the Chiefs were able to run the clock down and register their fourth successive victory.
