Carolina Panthers defensive end Greg Hardy has been arrested and charged on suspicion of domestic violence following an incident in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Hardy was arrested by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department after they responded to a domestic violence assault call for service from a woman believed to be the Pro Bowler's girlfriend.
According to the police report, the woman alleged that she had been physically assaulted and threatened by Hardy, who will spend Tuesday night in jail before appearing in front of a judge on Wednesday morning.
The 25-year-old enjoyed the best season of his career in 2013, leading the Panthers with 15 sacks and being included in his first Pro Bowl.
Carolina have since given him their franchise tag, but general manager Dave Gettleman is understood to be keen on tying him down to a long-term contract.
