Manchester United have reportedly received a major update as they pursue Sporting Lisbon hotshot Viktor Gyokeres.
The Red Devils are targeting New Year arrivals in a difficult market this month, following their worst-ever start to a Premier League campaign under Erik ten Hag and now Ruben Amorim, formerly of Sporting Lisbon.
Despite the summer acquisition of Joshua Zirkzee, strikers have been a talking point around the Theatre of Dreams, with Napoli man Victor Osimhen supposedly keen on a switch to Man United before the February 3 deadline.
While Dutchman Zirkzee has failed to hit the mark for his new employers, United-linked Gyokeres continues to tear it up in the Primeira Liga, netting 21 goals across 17 top-flight contests during 2024-25 to date.
The towering Swede commenced the New Year with a glut of goals at Vitoria de Guimaraes on Friday night, with the 26-year-old bagging a sensational hat-trick.
Man United target Gyokeres available for £50m in summer?
According to Sky Sports News, Manchester United and the other potential suitors of Gyokeres have received a telling update in the situation of Gyokeres at Sporting Lisbon during 2025.
The report states that a January transfer for the 26-year-old away from his current side is not on the cards, meaning that he will continue to wear the green and white for the remainder of the campaign.
However, it is understood that Gyokeres and his agent are targeting a summer exit from Sporting Lisbon, with a switch to a bigger European club peaking the interest of the former Coventry City talisman.
The striker supposedly has an £83m release clause inserted into his current deal at Estadio Jose Alvalade, a figure that hardly tempts any purchasers into a deal this month.
Although, it is believed that Gyokeres will be available between £50m and £58m at the conclusion of the campaign during the 2025 summer transfer window.
The marvellous rise of Gyokeres
During the first half of the 2020-21 campaign, Gyokeres endured a troubling loan spell at Swansea City from Brighton & Hove Albion, failing to score across 11 Championship appearances.
His record barely improved during a temporary stint at Coventry in the closing months of the same term, netting three goals in 19 competitive matches.
Even after scoring 22 goals in his final campaign in the East Midlands, it is hard to believe the trajectory that Gyokeres has enjoyed over the past 18 months as a mammoth move awaits him in the summer. body check tags ::
