The New York Giants' dismal start to the NFL season plunged to new depths as they were shut out by the Carolina Panthers, losing 38-0 to the NFC South outfit.
The Panthers edged a fairly tight first quarter, with Mike Tolbert picking up the only score with a two-yard running touchdown.
Graham Gano added an impressive 53-yard field goal in the second quarter before Brandon LaFell collected a 16-yard pass from Cam Newton with just 19 seconds to go before half time.
The same duo combined again in the third quarter as LaFell caught a 20-yard pass from Newton to pick up his second touchdown of the day.
Newton then took it upon himself to do the running for his side's next touchdown, going over from three yards to extend the Panthers' lead to 31 points.
Things got even worse for the beleaguered Giants in the fourth quarter as Newton threw his third touchdown pass of the afternoon, combining with Ted Ginn Jr for a 47-yard score.
That proved to the be last score on a famous night for the Panthers, who picked up their first win of the season with the result.
