Chicago Bears legend Brian Urlacher has expressed his belief that the franchise should show more loyalty to long-serving players at the end of their careers.
The Bears recently announced that record-breaking return specialist Devin Hester would not be re-signed this off-season, despite expressing his desire to retire as a member of the team.
Urlacher suffered a similar fate last season, being made a free agent after 13 years with the team before deciding to retire completely, and he believes that the Bears could learn something from the teams like the Pittsburgh Steelers.
"Look at what the Steelers have done the last couple days signing Troy Polamalu, Heath Miller, some older guys to a couple more years just so they can retire as Steelers," Urlacher is quoted as saying by ESPN.
"The Bears could do that with Devin. He should retire a Bear. He set all those records in a Bears uniform and his No. 23 should be retired one day in Chicago.
"It's just the loyalty factor. It's just not there. He should be a guy that retires as a Bear."
Urlacher reached eight Pro Bowls and was named in the NFL 2000s All-Decade Team during an illustrious career.
