The Chicago Bears are reportedly set to hire Vic Fangio to serve as head coach John Fox's defensive co-ordinator.
Fangio led the San Francisco 49ers defense over the past four seasons and they ranked in the top three in points allowed between 2011 and 2013.
The former 49ers defensive coach also interviewed with the Washington Redskins, according to NFL.com.
Chicago have made rebuilding their defense a priority this off-season after the Oakland Raiders were the only team to allow more points per game this season.
The Bears also allowed the third-most yardage in the NFL in 2014 as former coach Marc Trestman and former defensive play-caller Mel Tucker struggled to plug the gaps.
