The Dallas Cowboys and the Washington Redskins met in a battle between rivals in the NFC East division in the NFL.

The Cowboys were coming into the game off a devastating loss to the Denver Broncos last week, while the Redskins were fresh of their bye week.

However, it was the Cowboys who ran out comfortable winners as they secured a 15-point victory to move to joint-top of the NFC East with a 3-3 record and they condemned Mike Shanahan's side to 1-4.

Read how all the action unfolded in our commentary below.

Good morning and welcome to our live commentary of the NFL clash between the Dallas Cowboys and the Washington Redskins.
The Cowboys come into this game with a 2-3 record, which could so easily have been 3-2, but they suffered a devastating loss to the Denver Broncos last week.
Despite throwing for over 500 yards and five touchdowns Tony Romo ending up on the losing side as the threw a late interception into the hands of Danny Trevathan, allowing Matt Prater to kick a game-winning field goal.
Jason Garrett's side will now have to bounce back against one of their rivals in the NFC East to wrestle back control of the division.
The Redskins are coming off their bye week and should have a fully healed Robert Griffin III, as he looks to find the form that saw him awarded Offensive Rookie of the Year last season.
Mike Shanahan's side recorded their first win of the season last time out as they beat the Oakland Raiders after starting their campaign 0-3. Strange as it seems a win in this game will put them within striking distance of the lead in the NFC East despite their disastrous start.
This division is the most wide open in the NFL and it is quite capable of sending a team with a 0.500 record into the post-season and even the Super Bowl as the New York Giants have proven recently.
The inactives have just been revealed and we'll start with the home side.
COWBOYS INACTIVES: Dunbar, Greenwood, Jones, Arkin, Costa, Weems, Smith.
REDSKINS INACTIVES: Grossman, Rambo, Thompson, Pugh, Jenkins, Leribeus, Neild.
No notable absences for the Cowboys, who are pretty much at full strength in terms in what is available on their active roster.
The Redskins are without safety Baccari Rambo due to injury, other than that they are also at full strength.
Romo could be set for another big week of passing as the Redskins pass defense this year has been very suspect. The visitors will need to get pressure via Ryan Kerrigan and Brian Orakpo.
Romo and his offense will begin at the 20.
The Cowboys are moving immediately as DeMarco Murray finds a big hole over left tackle and he runs for 10 yards to pick up the first down.
Murray finds a tough yard to pick up another first down after Romo found Witten for eight yards on second. Good signs already for the Cowboys.
Murray keeps moving the chains as this time Romo checks down to him in the flat and he runs for 16 yards before he is brought down.
First penalty of the game as cornerback David Amerson is caught holding Terrence Williams and drags him down. It's an automatic first down and and a five-yard penalty against the Redskins.
Romo goes to one of his favourites on third down and six as he finds tight end Witten for a big gain, as he pulled up short as the Redskins were blitzing and was able to take advantage of a big hole in the defence for 14 yards.
The Cowboys move within striking distance as they have first and goal as Romo goes to Williams on a curl route and he does well to come back for the ball and beat two tackles to pick up the first.
Another penalty on the Redskins moves the Cowboys closer to the goalline. They're on the two now.
TOUCHDOWN COWBOYS!
The Cowboys go ahead as Romo hands off to Murray and from three yards out he powers through the middle of the line behind a block from right guard Brian Waters and stretches out put the ball over the line, into the endzone. A lovely drive to start the game for Garrett's side.
The Redskins will also begin on the 20. Here comes RG3.
The visitors are rolling immediately as well as RG3 fakes to Morris on a hand off and fires to Hankerson on a slant route for 19 yards and a first down.
Ooo! RG3 is healthy now as he takes off round the corner and gets another set of downs for his side with his feet, beating Ware in the process. That was a pick up of 15 yards.
RG3 looks in good rhythm on his throw and picks up a vital first down as he hits his tight end Jordan Reed over the middle on a slant route for 11 yards on what was third and seven.
Reed makes a splash again as this time RG3 fakes a throw to the left to set up a screen on the right and hits the tight end for 13 yards on second, after the visitors got themselves in a hole on a three-yard loss on first. Solid offense so far.
Tough running from Morris over the left-hand side of the line and gets seven yards for another set of downs. He burst through a couple of tackles to get an extra yard after he looked like going down short of the marker.
RG3 goes himself on third and goal from about the seven, he looks like he might get to the endzone but Cowboys linebacker Sean Lee makes an excellent tackle to bring him down two yards short. A great read and react play from the former Penn State man. That will force Forbath into a 20-yard field goal.
FIELD GOAL GOOD!
Forbath knocks his kick through the posts from 20 yards away and it's a four point game.
Harris takes the ball out to the 16 before he's tackled where Romo will begin again.
Romo gets rolling with a first down pick up to Bryant on an out-route for seven yards as the receiver beats cornerback Hall to the ball on the left-hand sideline.
Romo finds Bryant again for seven more and you can add 15 yards onto that as the quarterback is hit late by Riley and the linebacker is penalised for roughing the passer. Dallas will be on their 48 when the second quarter starts.
END OF FIRST QUARTER: Washington Redskins 3-7 Dallas Cowboys
Murray finds another tough yard on third and one as he goes straight through the middle to keep his side rolling. Impressive start by the Cowboys' offense.
INTERCEPTION REDSKINS!
Oh dear, Romo is intercepted again as his attempted throw to Beasley is tipped by Orakpo and the ball loops into the air and into the hands of linebacker Rob Jackson, who makes the catch and hits the deck, giving his offense the ball near their own 35.
The Redskins are rolling straight away as RG3 finds Garcon on a screen pass for nine yards and Morris gets the first down on the next play with a power run through the middle of the field.
Washington can't turn the interception into points as they are forced to punt away after Morris took a four-yard loss on first thanks to good tackle from Hatcher and then RG3 threw two incompletions on second and third.
Dallas get away with one here as cornerback Webb accidentally touches the ball following the punt and the Redskins gather, but it is ruled that Webb was blocked into it and therefore it's Dallas's ball at their own 25.
Tanner gets the ball on the hand off and picks up two yards needed for a first down after Bryant got Romo out of jail with a great catch on a underthrown pass which Hall almost intercepted.
Romo gets another break as he throws the ball downfield in the direction of Williams but overthrows him and Biggers nearly picks the ball but it just drops short of him. Jones punts to Morgan, who takes the ball back to the Redskins' 22.
RG3 gets his side out of a tight hole with the help of Garcon as he hits him for gains of 15 and nine to pickup the first down after being at second and 20. That was RG3 at his best buying time in the pocket before accurately delivering the ball on two slant routes.
RG3 should be intercepted by Church as he flaps at the ball but his deflection is almost caught by Carr but he can't come up with it either. That was on third and seven and the visitors will punt.
TOUCHDOWN COWBOYS!
Harris collects the ball at the 14 and runs with it all the way to the endzone for an 86-yard score as he weaves through several tackles on his punt return. That could be a huge momentum swing in this game.
Paul collects the kick and takes the ball to the Redskins' 18, where RG3 will begin.
The Redskins get rolling immediately as RG3 throws to Moss on a screen pass and he finds room in the Cowboys' defense for a 14-yard pick up to move the chains.
Morris gets a screen pass from his quarterback this time and he finds eight yards on the ground before the two minute warning. A score for the Redskins is a must before the break.
RG3 picks up the yardage for another set of downs himself with a run for three over the left-hand side of the line as he pushes Carr out of his way to reach the marker.
The Redskins get a huge a break as RG3 was knocked down throwing an incompletion however the Dallas bench were convinced that it was a sack but they took their protests too far and were penalised 15 yards for unsportsmanlike conduct.
Reed shows up again for the Redskins on third down over the middle with a go route down the seam and RG3 has no problem picking him out for a 29-yard gain.
Some horrendous clock management from the Redskins after the completion to Reed as somehow they let the clock get down to 16 seconds before they ran another play. RG3 is forced to go to the endzone but he can't find any open receivers and now Forbath will kick a 32-yard field goal.
FIELD GOAL GOOD!
Forbath nails his kick between the posts to reduce the deficit to eight points.
HALF-TIME: Washington Redskins 6-14 Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys lead at the break thanks to a solid drive in their opening possession and an excellent punt return from Dwayne Harris. Other than that there hasn't been much to write home about from their perspective on offense.
Romo threw an early interception whick killed a drive and then was very lucky to get away with some throws on their next possession when Hall should have made a play for the visitors. There's plenty of hope for the Redskins that he will make another mistake.
RG3 has looked good in bursts this evening. He hasn't quite looked like the RG3 of last season but there are positive signs for the Redskins. More importantly they're still in the game but will need to get into the endzone sooner rather than later.
For a quick recap of the first half, click here for our report.
RG3 will begin at the 20.
RG3 picks up the first down as he finds Garcon on a shallow out route for four yards a play after picking up eight with his feet on a boot leg.
RG3 keeps the chains moving with his feet this time and runs for 25 yards before he tries to get out of bounds at the 40 but he's hit late by Church, so another 15 yards is added to the spot of the ball. The Redskins will move close to the redzone thanks to that. You can't hit a quarterback late these days.
On third and nine RG3 looks deep but he is forced to go to Garcon on a slant route and he can only find seven yards forcing them into another field goal, from 33 yards. Field goals will not be enough to beat the Cowboys.
FIELD GOAL GOOD!
Forbath knocks his kick through the posts from 33 yards to close the deficit to five points.
Harris reels off another huge return as he beats the first wave of tacklers and runs all the way to the Redskins' 25 before he gets knocked out of bounds by Biggers. A big momentum swing again.
TOUCHDOWN COWBOYS!
The Cowboys extend their lead on a quick strike as Romo is flushed from the pocket and is forced to throw on the run and he picks out Williams at the back of the endzone, who does extremely well to catch the ball and tap his toes to the ground to secure the 15-yard touchdown.
RG3 and his offense will begin on the 20 again as Bailey kicks the ball out of the endzone.
The Redskins pick up the first down all on the ground as Morris gets six on first, then another two on second before Helu gets the final two on a crucial third down pick up.
The Redskins are forced to punt as RG3 is sacked on first down and gets his side into second and 22, he fumbles the ball as well but left tackle Williams is on hand to gather. Helu on third down gets 18 of the 22 but Rocca is brought out to kick.
Rocca's punt is gathered by Harris at his own five and he gets to the 28 but the play is brought back for a penalty, so Romo will start at his own 18.
The Cowboys go three and out as Romo throws two incompletions on second and third after Randle could get nothing on the ground on first. Jones's punt is collected by 39, but a penalty on the Redskins will put them back to the 29.
RG3 runs 10 yards with the ball down the left and add another 15 yards onto that as Church grabs his facemask as he goes out of bounds. That's the second time the safety has done that.
TOUCHDOWN REDSKINS!
Morris gets the ball on a hand off and he runs through a huge hole through the right-hand side of the line and he runs past two tacklers and has the open field to run into and he coasts in from the touchdown. That was a 45-yard run from the former sixth-round pick.
Romo will begin at the 20 as Forbath kicks the ball out of the endzone.
Romo takes a huge sack on first down as Riley gets to him and brings him down for a five-yard loss, he then throws two incompletions on second and third down forcing Jones to punt. His kick is collected by Morgan, who runs the ball back to the Redskins' 38.
RG3 get his side rolling again and now he looks dangerous as he finds Hankerson on a curl route down the right-hand side for 17 yards and a first down. He had Reed open down the middle as well. The Cowboys' defense is struggling at the moment.
Morris and RG3 combine for another first down pick up as they run for six and five yards respectively to keep the chains moving and the Redskins' are now at the Dallas 30.
END OF THIRD QUARTER: Washington Redskins 16-21 Dallas Cowboys
The Redskins drive comes to a halt with two incompletions to Hankerson and Garcon as Claibourne makes a play to knock the ball away from Hankerson while RG3's throw is out of bounds to the latter. That sets up a 49-yard field goal for Forbath.
FIELD GOAL NO GOOD!
Forbath hooks his kick wide of the posts from 49 yards, which gives Romo good field position to put his side in command on this drive.
Romo reels off two good throws under pressure first to find Beasley on the first of them as Orakpo almost brings him down but he evades him just and finds the receiver. Then he hits Bryant over the middle on a crossing route and he walks through a couple of tackles to find 17 yards and another set of downs.
A big moment in the game as Romo delivers on third down and five. The Redskins send the house with a zero blitz but the offensive line give Romo time to find Beasley on an out route to get the yardage and move the Cowboys to the Washington 16.
Hall may have saved the game for the Redskins as he reaches back to breakup a sure touchdown for Austin as he got over the top of the defense and Romo's throw was on target but the cornerback got a hand in to ensure he didn't make the grab. On third down Romo checks down to Beasley for 14 yards, setting up a 30-yard field goal for Bailey.
FIELD GOAL GOOD!
Bailey fires his kick through the posts from 30 yards to make it an eight-point game at AT & T Stadium.
RG3 will begin at the 20 as Bailey's kickoff goes out of the endzone.
FUMBLE!!!
RG3 is sacked on his on two-yard line and drops the ball allowing Wilber to gather giving the Cowboys an excellent chance to kill the game. What a play by Wilber to beat his man, bring down the quarterback and steal the ball as well. He may have just won the game for his side.
TOUCHDOWN COWBOYS!
The Cowboys go into a 15-point lead as Randle gets into the endzone. It looked like he was going to be stopped at the one by Riley, who stood him up but center Frederick pushed the running back and the linebacker over the goalline into the endzone for the score. A great play by the lineman.
Morgan returns Bailey's kick to the 14 where RG3 will begin again.
The Redskins get a break as they are handed another set of downs following a penalty on Hayden and then on the next play RG3 goes deep down the right-hand sideline for Moss on a comeback route and he gains 26 yards before he's brought down.
Darrel Young powers through the middle of the line for a pick up of 19 yards to earn his side another set of downs on a crucial third down play at the Washington 40.
INTERCEPTION COWBOYS!
RG3 throws deep to the endzone on second and seven but is picked off by Scandrick with a diving grab. There looked to be confusion between the quarterback and his receiver as there was no-one near Scandrick when he made the pick.
Randle gets the Cowboys' drive off to an excellent start with a 14-yard run right through the middle of the line to get the clock moving. It's all about how much time is left on the clock. As Tom Brady showed in the earlier games, you should never give a quarterback time to get back in to a match.
The Cowboys can't extend their drive and as Randle is stuffed for a three-yard loss on third down. Jones's punt is collected at the 19 by Morgan and he is tackled immediately. Three minutes for RG3 and his offense to conjure 15 points.
RG3 gets his side moving with a 25-yard completion to Garcon over the middle to move his side to their own 41. Still time left in this one.
RG3 throws three straight incompletions forcing him to go for it on fourth down. He tries to hit Hankerson but they can't complete the pass and they will turn it over on downs.
A first down will win it for the Cowboys as the visitors are out of timeouts and it will allow Romo just to kneel for the win.
No first down for Dallas so they will punt the ball away but there's no time for RG3 to do anything here.
Washington commit a penalty on the punt and that will back them up to their six. Morris gets a run but they're backed up further to their own three with another penalty.
Helu runs with the ball and stops as the clock hits zero and ends the game.
FULL-TIME: Washington Redskins 16-31 Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys secure an important win after the setback of last week to go joint-top of the NFC East with a 3-3 record drawing level with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Strangely enough Jason Garrett's side played better football last week and lost than they did today. Romo was far from his best as he was held to 170 yards and threw one touchdown compared to the five he had last week, but he'll take the result without a doubt.
The Redskins seemed flat for most of the game and RG3 doesn't quite have the spark he had in his rookie season. Mike Shanahan's side have fallen to 1-4 and they will need something special to get in the playoff mix from that position.
Thanks for joining our commentary this evening. We'll be back tomorrow when the San Diego Chargers take on the Indianapolis Colts, until then, goodbye.
