The Dallas Cowboys cruised to a 20-10 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles to secure their second win of the season, but the victory came at a cost as they lost starting quarterback Tony Romo to a serious injury.
Both teams struggled in the early stages of the game to get into rhythm on offense as the Cowboys felt the absence of All-Pro wideout Dez Bryant from their passing game.
Romo drove his side downfield at the end of the first quarter and looked to have notched the first score of the game when Gavin Escobar dived for the line, only for him to be ruled down before he scored the touchdown.
Dan Bailey put the 20-yard field goal through the posts to hand the visitors the lead, and their defense ensured they held the advantage as they tormented former teammate DeMarco Murray by repeatedly stuffing him for a loss in the Eagles' ground game.
The Cowboys kicker added another field goal from close range before the break to extend his side's lead to six points.
In the second half, the Cowboys scored the first touchdown of the game when Kyle Wilber burst through the line from a punt, blocking the kick from Donnie Jones, and then he raced towards the endzone to record the score.
However, disaster was to strike for Dallas when Romo was sacked by Jordan Hicks and Fletcher Cox and was forced from the field with a suspected fractured collarbone.
Brandon Weeden replaced him at quarterback, but the Cowboys began to struggle to move the ball. The home side responded by driving into the redzone for the first time in the match, but Sam Bradford saw his pass intercepted by Sean Lee.
Both teams made disastrous errors within seconds of each other as Escobar fumbled, but the Eagles could not take advantage as Jason Kelce snapped the ball when Bradford was not ready and the Cowboys managed to gather.
Jason Garrett's men put the nail in the Eagles' coffin when Weeden fired to Terrance Williams on a slant route and the wideout beat the coverage of Byron Maxwell to walk in for the score.
The Eagles got a consolation touchdown when Bradford fired to Jordan Matthews in the endzone, but it could not stop the home side from falling to their second defeat on the spin.
