John Elway has said that Von Miller will continue to work out and attend team meetings with the Denver Broncos during his suspension.
The linebacker will miss the opening six games of the 2013 NFL season for breaching the league's substance-abuse policy.
The team's vice-president of football operations told the team's website: "It'll be good for him to be around. Plus he gets to stay close to the game, stay close to his teammates. That's going to be important that he has their support.
"I know nobody feels worse about this than Von, so for us [it's being] able to keep our arms around him and be there for him and help him through this process. Whatever we have to do as an organization to try to help Von, we want to be able to do.
"It's time that if we can help him take that next step in the maturation process, we want to do that. We'll take it one step at a time and the first step now is to make sure that we're getting Von the help that he needs to get."
Head coach John Fox has also said that the team will support Miller throughout the ban.
