Archie Manning, the father of Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton, has suggested that the signal-caller will make a decision on his future in the next fortnight.
Manning's Broncos will be forced to look on and watch the Super Bowl on Sunday as they failed to make an immediate return to the season finale.
The veteran quarterback's recent performances have attracted criticism and questions regarding his future, but there has been no word from Manning since.
"He's given a lot of thought to it," Manning said, according to ESPN.
"My advice for him is to go through the process, get away a little bit, let your leg heal, give it a lot of thought and decide what you're going to do. [I] think he's taken a good evaluation of where he is physically."
If the 38-year-old does decide to return next season, he will start a new regime under coach Gary Kubiak and offensive co-ordinator Rick Dennison.
