Nick Collins "optimistic" of NFL comeback

Former Green Bay Packers safety Nick Collins believes that he is ready to make his NFL comeback over two years after sustaining a serious neck injury.

Nick Collins has said that he is "optimistic" of his chances of making a comeback in the NFL.

The former Green Bay Packers safety has not played since injuring his neck in the second week of the 2011 season, and was released the following off-season.

After recently tweeting that he was "ready for action", the 30-year-old told ESPN: "I'm optimistic about it. My whole purpose for sending that tweet out is to just let teams know that if they're willing to take a chance, I'm open to it.

"I'm 100% healed from the surgery, so if teams want to bring me in and get me evaluated by their doctors, or whatever doctors they want me to go see, then I'll do that for them. That was the whole purpose, to let them know I'm still out there and I'm still optimistic about playing.

"There's always going to be a risk, but I don't think my risk is any higher than a regular guy that's playing right now. It might be a little more, but it's pretty much the same."

When he was released by the Packers, the NFC North side said that they would not be comfortable clearing him to play again.
