Houston Texans head coach Bill O'Brien has announced that Brian Hoyer will be the club's starting quarterback for the 2015 season.
Hoyer and Ryan Mallett have battled over the course of the off-season to win the position, but O'Brien has opted to go with the 29-year-old due to his experience and consistency throughout training camp.
"In the end, I thought that Brian showed me the most consistency, the most composure in certain situations, the experience in our system," O'Brien told reporters.
"All those different things that go into the fact that I think he's ready to be our starter. I have a ton of respect for Ryan Mallett. I believe in him as a player."
Hoyer has thrown for 4,557 yards and 19 touchdowns to 19 interceptions in his seven years in the league.
