New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady admits that his side were far from their best in their narrow victory over the New York Jets.

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has admitted that his side were only just good enough on the day to edge out the New York Jets in their AFC East match.

The Patriots secured a first-round bye in the playoffs with a narrow 17-16 win over the Jets, but they didn't have it all their own way at MetLife Stadium as they were forced to come from behind in the fourth quarter to overcome Rex Ryan's side.

Brady told reporters: "We made plenty of good ones in the fourth quarter to come from behind. That was great. Defensively, we played great again. I'm glad it came out the way that it did, it makes for a better Christmas. It's always tough to get a win here, they're a good team.

"They always play us pretty hard. We got their best today. We obviously didn't do a very good job there in the first three quarters.

"We found a little rhythm there in the second half and got some points on the board. [We] made some plays at the end. It's about making the critical plays and we found a way to do it."

The Patriots can secure the number one seed in the AFC playoffs if the Denver Broncos lose to the Cincinnati Bengals in their match later today.
