New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning insists that he won't "overdo" things despite returning to full training ahead of schedule this week.

New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning has insisted that he won't "overdo" things despite returning to full training ahead of schedule this week.

Manning took part in the organised team activities, playing a full role in the practice just seven weeks after undergoing ankle surgery.

The 33-year-old is confident that he is at a point in his recovery where he can take part in events on the field, and believes that being out in the middle rather than watching from the sidelines is important.

"The last few weeks, I've been doing most things from a practice standpoint. We're still being smart about things and not trying to overdo it, but definitely, football activities, I feel like I can do them all full," Manning is quoted as saying by ESPN.

"It's one thing to watch it from the sideline and think you know what's going on. But sometimes, you've got to be there at the line of scrimmage, making the calls, changing the calls, going through your progressions and doing it all."

The Giants will be looking to end their two-year absence from the playoffs during the 2014 campaign.
