New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning is finalising a four-year, $84m (£54.3m) extension with the team, according to reports.
The new deal, which is believed to have $65m (£42m) in guarantees, could be signed by Friday according to NFL Media.
The 34-year-old recently denied reports that he wanted to be the NFL's highest-paid player, but the proposed new contract would give him $21m (£13.5m) per year, just $1m (£647,500) behind the game's top earner Aaron Rodgers.
Manning has never missed a start in 11 seasons and has led the Giants to two Super Bowl championships in 2007 and 2011.
