New York Jets running back Mike Goodson has returned to team duties after a spell out with unspecified personal issues.
Goodson has not taken part in the Jets' training camp so far this pre-season having been arrested for allegedly possessing a semi-automatic handgun and a small amount of marijuana in May.
In a statement, the controversial 26-year-old thanked the team for sticking by him through his personal troubles and vowed to do whatever he could to repay them.
"I've been away from the team to take care of some important personal things," read the statement.
"The time was helpful to me and now that I am back, I am going to do everything I can to contribute to the team. I appreciate all of the support from the Jets organization and I'm thankful to be back with my teammates."
The Jets also released a statement welcoming Goodson back, but they warned the former Carolina Panthers and Oakland Raiders man regarding his future conduct.
"While we welcome Mike back to the organization, we have had direct conversations to make our expectations very clear as we work together to help him move forward in a positive manner, both on and off the field," read the team's statement.
Goodson will be unable to take part in any matches for the Jets until September 30 having violated the NFL's substance abuse policy.
