Rodney Harrison: 'New York Jets will go nowhere with Geno Smith at quarterback'

Rodney Harrison believes that the New York Jets will not be able to compete for a place in the NFL playoffs as long as they have Geno Smith as their starting quarterback.

Rodney Harrison has insisted that the New York Jets have no chance of reaching the playoffs with Geno Smith as their quarterback.

The AFC East side have been touted to select quarterback Marcus Mariota in the NFL Draft, but owner Woody Johnson and head coach Todd Bowles have suggested that Smith will begin their off-season activities as their starter.

Harrison is adamant that all the moves the Jets have made in the off-season, such as signing All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis and trading for wideout Brandon Marshall, will be for nothing if Smith continues to be their signal-caller.

"The Jets are, all of a sudden, on a high thinking they're going to win a championship," Harrison said on NBC Sports. "You're not going to win a championship, you're not even going to make the playoffs, because you don't have a quarterback.

"If you go into the season and you're expecting Geno Smith to improve, it's not going to happen. He might get a little better, but when times get tough, when adversity hits, guess what he's going to do? He's going to fold just like the last couple years."

Harrison played for the Jets' bitter rivals the New England Patriots for six years, winning two Super Bowls.
