Former college player and NFL prospect Brad Thorson has publicly revealed that he is gay by making an announcement on his personal blog page on July 4.
Thorson played college football at both Wisconsin and Kansas as an offensive lineman before a spell with the Arizona Cardinals during their summer camp in 2011.
"I'm gay. I'm also an athlete. For years, I struggled to unite these two identities in my own mind. Not until after my professional athletic career came to an end did I allow myself to understand my sexuality. Now, three years later, I'm finally ready to share that with people," he wrote, revealing that it was a relief to do so.
After deciding against a career in the NFL, Thorson now lives in San Francisco where he plays with the Fog rugby team.
