The Philadelphia Eagles have released veteran wide receiver Jason Avant, bringing an end to his eight-year career with the team.
Avant was chosen in the fourth round of the 2006 Draft and went on to play his whole career for the Eagles, but he was deemed surplus to requirements after the team handed new contracts to Riley Cooper and Jeremy Maclin recently.
Eagles chairman Jeffrey Lurie was quick to express his gratitude for the service Avant had given to the team, hailing the 30-year-old as a "true professional" and a "role model".
"There have not been any players who have represented the Philadelphia Eagles with more class and dignity than Jason Avant," Lurie said in a team statement.
"Whether it was in the locker room, on the playing field or in the community, he has always been a true professional, a role model and a winner every step of the way.
"On behalf of the entire organization, I wish Jason and his wife, Stacy, and their two daughters nothing but the best as he continues his fine career."
Avant made 38 catches for 447 yards and two touchdowns last season.
