Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nick Foles plays down the tag of being a 'franchise player', claiming that such labels mean nothing.

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nick Foles has played down the label of being a 'franchise player', claiming that the tag is meaningless.

Foles took over as the Eagles' starting quarterback during the season after an injury to Michael Vick, steering his side to an 8-3 record during his time on the field, including Saturday's narrow playoff defeat to the New Orleans Saints.

"A franchise QB is the one who's going to go to work every single day, and when it's game day, he's got to play well. He's also got to be a leader. He's got to be a guy the team looks to and the city looks to. You've got to be consistent," Foles told reporters.

"I've never looked at a label as meaningful. It just means someone has your back and has that respect. But for me personally, I'm going to continue to be who I am. I'm not going to change based on labeling me this or I should be this.

"I don't care about that. I know I've got to keep getting better each and every day for my teammates. That's the most important thing. The rest will take care of itself."

Foles ended the 2013 season with 27 touchdown passes and just two interceptions, the best single-season TD-INT ratio in NFL history.
