Good evening and welcome to the live commentary of the NFL clash between the San Francisco 49ers and the Seattle Seahawks at Levi's Stadium.
This is a crucial match for both teams this evening in their quest for the playoffs as they both hold 7-4 records. Both teams can dent each others hopes to reach the post-season with a victory in the clash tonight in their NFC West battle.
In the regular season in 2013, the teams split the series in the two matches as the Seahawks won their home match, while the 49ers claimed victory at Candlestick Park. However, the Seahawks posted the better regular season record and earned the number one side allowing them to host playoff matches at CenturyLink Field, where they edged out Jim Harbaugh's men in the NFC championship game.
To say that these teams don't like each other would be an understatement. There is plenty of bad blood between the sides and none more so than Richard Sherman and Michael Crabtree as their battle on-the-pitch spilled over into the post-match reaction after Sherman had made the game-winning play to knock the ball away from the receiver.

The Seahawks of course went on to win the Super Bowl as they crushed the Denver Broncos at MetLife Stadium in 43-8 thrashing, but they haven't had things their own way this year as they have struggled immensely on offense, while they have suffered some crucial injuries on defense. Brandon Mebane was a pivotal figure in their run to the Super Bowl, but he has been ruled out for the year, along with offensive lineman Max Unger. Kam Chancellor has also spent time on the sidelines, but is slowly making his way back to form.
San Francisco have also struggled on the offensive side of the ball as Colin Kaepernick has failed to find his rhythm, while Michael Crabtree and Vernon Davis have been far from their best. The injury bug has also struck the 49ers' defense as All-Pro linebacker Patrick Willis has been ruled out for the year, while NaVorro Bowman is still recovering from the injury he sustained in the NFC championship in January when he tore his ACL and MCL. Harbaugh's men have looked better in recent weeks, but they can put a real statement down with a victory over their bitter rivals.
In better news for the 49ers Aldon Smith looked good in his return from his suspension last week against the Washington Redskins after missing the first nine games of the year due to suspension. His pass-rushing skills were sorely missed by the 49ers at the start of the year and will be vital against the rushing style of Russell Wilson this evening. Harbaugh will be delighted with how one player has stepped up this season as rookie Chris Borland has been a star for the club in the middle of the defense in the absence of Willis and Bowman. He has made several crucial plays for his side this season and looks a lock for defensive rookie of the year.
Much has been made this season of the future of Harbaugh of 49ers, with many people suggesting that this year could be his last with the club. He has guided the team to three straight appearances in the NFC championship game and one Super Bowl and he would be greatly missed if he were to leave as he has transformed the fortunes of the club.
The Seahawks have been average on the road this season with a 2-3 record. At home they are more or less unbeatable, but away from the Link they have proven to be mortal and the 49ers will have to take advantage of that to keep themselves in the playoff hunt. If they can secure a victory this evening, it will be huge for their momentum and take them within one game of the Arizona Cardinals, who lead the NFC West with 9-2 record. The same can also be said for the Seahawks, who can also close within a game of the Cardinals and they also hold the tie-breaker over Bruce Arians's side following their victory last week.
We are ready for kickoff and the 49ers will receive the ball with Steven Hauschka to kickoff for the visitors.
Hyde returns the kickoff to his side's 13-yard line where Kaepernick will begin.
The 49ers get moving with a first down immediately as Gore gets the handoff on first and he powers through the middle of the line for a seven-yard gain. Kaepernick then fires to Crabtree for five yards on second to move the chains, but the receiver hits the deck clutching his knee after he made the reception. If Crabtree is injured that would be a huge blow for the home side.
The drive ends for the 49ers as Kaepernick lofts the ball deep on third and six, but the ball falls incomplete as Lloyd couldn't locate the ball to make the grab. Walters returns the punt from Lee to the Seattle 26-yard line for a gain of seven yards. In injury news, Crabtree walked to the sideline for the 49ers, but didn't return to action after taking the hit.
A penalty on the Seahawks kills their drive on their opening possession as a clipping penalty moves them back 15 yards. Wilson and Marshawn Lynch can't get the yardage back on second and third down, resulting in a punt from Ryan, which is collected at the San Francisco 31-yard line by Cox.
SACK! Kaepernick is decked in the pocket by Avril as he gets around the edge and pushes Martin all the way back into the quarterback, which stops the drive on third down and five. A defensive struggle so far in the match. Lee's punt is collected by Walters and taken to the Seattle 21-yard line before he is tackled.
Another three and out from the Seahawks as Wilson complete a short pass to Baldwin and then Lynch churns up the yards for a four-yard gain to leave third and two. However, Wilson's pass to Moeaki falls incomplete on third, forcing the punt for Ryan which goes out of bounds the the 27-yard line of the 49ers.
INTERCEPTION! Sherman intercepts Kaepernick as the quarterback tries to find Lloyd on third down and six, but the cornerback keeps his eyes on the ball and makes the catch to hand his side possession at the 45-yard line of the 49ers.
The Seahawks get their first first down of the game and it's through a penalty as Deontae Johnson is guilty of defensive holding, which hands the visitors five yards. Surprisingly, Harbaugh is not happy with the decision and is remonstrating with the officials on the sideline.
Wilson gets his side moving deep into 49ers' territory as he fires over the middle of the field for Baldwin, who beats a tackle and is finally brought down at the 15-yard line for a gain of 24 yards. The Seahawks are threatening here and have an excellent platform to take the lead.
TOUCHDOWN! Seattle Seahawks 7-0 San Francisco 49ers (Wilson - Turbin)
The Seahawks take the lead as Wilson fires the ball to his running back Robert Turbin in the flat. The back speeds down the sideline and he coasts into the endzone untouched for the 13-yard score. There was a breakdown in coverage from the 49ers there as Culliver appears to be the guilty party for leaving him open in the flat.
The 49ers will begin at the 20-yard line as Hauschka's kick is downed in the endzone for a touchback.
The 49ers move the chains as Kaepernick fires the ball like a rocket into the hands of Stevie Johnson for a six-yard reception. The pass needed to be like a bullet as two Seahawks' defenders were lurking for the interception. The 49ers will have the ball at their 33-yard line at the start of the second quarter.
END OF FIRST QUARTER: Seattle Seahawks 7-0 San Francisco 49ers
A penalty on Joe Staley ruins the momentum of the 49ers as Gore managed to churn up seven yards on first down, but Staley was called for holding and that put them back to first and 20. Two incompletions followed by Kaepernick and the 49ers decide to cut their losses and run Gore on third and 20 to avoid the turnover. Walters returns Lee's punt to the Seahawks' 35-yard line.
WHAT A PLAY! Wilson somehow evades several tacklers in the pocket and avoids being decked for a loss as he skips through challenges. He then throws off balance and into the hands of his tight end Luke Willson, who continues the good work as e breaks a tackle and speeds down the sideline before he is finally brought down at the one-yard line. Incredible play from the quarterback.
The 49ers make an excellent goalline stand as Justin Smith and Ahmad Brooks come to their rescue to keep them in the game. Smith powers through the line on first to knock Lynch down for a loss, while on second and third Brooks makes a tackle on Wilson then deflects his pass to safety. Three great defensive plays for the home side, and Hauschka will be forced into action with a field-goal attempt.
FIELD GOAL GOOD! Seattle Seahawks 10-0 San Francisco 49ers
Hauschka fires the 21-yard field goal through the posts and the Seahawks hold a 10-point lead at Levi's Stadium.
Hauschka's kick is grounded in the endzone and Kaepernick will start at the 20-yard line.
The 49ers get moving on first down as Kaepernick avoids the rush and throws on the run to Hyde over the right side, who jumps through a tackle to get the yardage for a first down with a 16-yard reception.
The 49ers are halted on offense again as Kaepernick's pass to Stevie Johnson is off target and falls incomplete on third and 11, after they failed to get any yardage from their ground game on first and second down. It has been a major struggle for the home side on offense, which has been the story of their season. Walters returns the punt downfield from Lee to the Seattle 40-yard line.
The Seahawks are moving again as Wilson takes the snap and drops back deep in the pocket. He buys time for his receivers downfield and hits Turbin down the left sideline for another huge gain before he is finally brought down at the San Francisco 26-yard line with a 34-yard reception.
The Seahawks can't convert on third and one after Wilson had done extremely well to get penalty yardage back with a 14-yard completion to Michael on a screen pass. Turbin tries to power through the middle of the line, but is met by Justin Smith who knocks him back for a loss with the help of a few of his teammates. Seattle keep their offense out on fourth down, but decide to call a last-second timeout to change their minds and go for the field goal instead.
FIELD GOAL GOOD! Seattle Seahawks 13-0 San Francisco 49ers
Hauschka fires his kick through the posts from 36 yards to hand his side a 13-point lead.
Hauschka fires his kickoff through the endzone so the 49ers will start at the 20-yard line.
Kaepernick is really struggling for timing on his throws with his receivers. It's not pretty at all from the 49ers' offense as his pass on third an 11 is nearly intercepted by Sherman again as he tries to hit Lloyd on a curl route. Lee's punt is collected at the 32-yard line by Baldwin, but a penalty on Tharold Simon will back the Seahawks up to their own 22.
Penalties on the Seattle prove to be costly as the 49ers make a defensive stand as Craig Dahl does well to break up a pass from Wilson to Kearse over the middle of the field on third and seven. Ryan will be forced to punt the ball away.
FUMBLE! Disaster for the 49ers as Ryan fumbles the ball, but somehow manages to get the punt away despite receiving pressure from Aaron Lynch. Cox collects the punt and tries to move forward, but he is hit by Lockette and fumbles the ball, allowing the Seahawks to dive on it to reclaim possession.
Another costly penalty on the Seahawks as Marshawn Lynch decides to taunt the 49ers' defense after a seven-yard reception. The officials throws the flags and it costs the Seahakws 15 yards, as instead of second and three at the 49ers' 33-yard line, they have second and 18 at their 48-yard line.
Wilson gets extremely lucky as he fumbles the ball as he tries to evade a tackle, but he manages to pounce on the ball before Jerod-Eddie can for the 49ers. Lynch then gets the handoff on third down and he is brought down with ease, forcing the punt from Seattle, which goes into the endzone. So the 49ers will begin at their own 20-yard line.
The 49ers pick up the first down as Simon is guilty of holding downfield on Johnson. It's only five yards though and time is running out for the 49ers, who may try a hail mary in this situation.
No hail mary as Kaepernick fires short to Johnson and he just runs straight into a tackler to end the half. A very poor decision by the receiver, especially when he had time to get out of bounds.
HALF-TIME: Seattle Seahawks 13-0 San Francisco 49ers
The first half was a disaster for the 49ers as they failed to put up a single point on offense, while the pressure inflicted on them told on their defense as they allowed the visitors to notch 13 points. The Seahawks could have this game out of sight if they had executed with better quality in the redzone, and had fewer penalties, which will disappoint Pete Carroll.
The difference between the two sides is definitely the quarterback position. Wilson has been calm and composed in the pocket and has made excellent plays when he has needed to, whereas Kaepernick has made several poor decisions and looks completely lost out there. The 49ers will need to make several changes in their approach at the break if they want to get back into this game to energise their offense. For the Seahawks, they need to start committing fewer penalties and start to execute a little bit better in the redzone to wrap this match up.
STAT ATTACK! Just to highlight the difference between the quarterbacks looks at their stats from the first half, Wilson is 9-14 for 163 yards and a touchdown, while Kaepernick is 7-16 for 55 yards and an interception.
Dawson kicks off and Richardson returns the ball to the Seattle 18-yard line where Wilson will begin.
Wilson fakes the handoff to Lynch and then fires deep downfield to Kearse who makes the grab for a 17-yard reception to move the chains as he beats Cox in coverage down the right sideline.
The Seahawks keep moving as Wilson finds Richardson over the middle of the field for a five-yard reception to keep the chains moving, after he and Lynch had combined for seven rushing yards on first and second down.
Lynch and Turbin power through the middle of the line to combine for 11 yards to earn their side a first down and into 49ers' territory. A score here would be huge for the visitors and put the home side under immense pressure.
Lynch powers over the right side of the line and breaks a tackle from Borland to raid downfield. The back keeps churning out the yards before he is brought down for a 33-yard gain at the San Francisco nine-yard line.
The Seahawks have a touchdown chalked off due to another penalty as they get called for offensive pass interference, which stops Richardson from extending his side's lead. Wilson then gets decked on back-to-back plays by Lynch and Justin Smith to stop the touchdown and that forces a field-goal attempt from 35 yards.
FIELD GOAL GOOD! Seattle Seahawks 16-0 San Francisco 49ers
Hauschka fires his effort through the posts and the Seahawks now lead by 16 points at Levi' Stadium.
Hyde returns the kickoff to 19-yard line where Kaepernick will begin once more.
The 49ers get handed a first down and five yards as the Seahawks commit another penalty when Avril is found guilty of holding Crabtree on his route downfield.
The 49ers get moving with their offense as Gore powers through the middle of the line for seven yards, then Kaepernick fires the ball out to Vernon Davis for the first time in the match for a pickup of 10 yards before he is shoved out of bounds by Maxwell.
The home side get a beneficial call on third and three as Kaepernick throws downfield and his pass is incomplete, but the referee flags Sherman for defensive holding on Boldin, handing the 49ers another set of downs at midfield.
Hyde gets the handoff and he takes the ball over the left side of the line for a carry of 12 yards and a first down before he is brought down at the Seattle 38 by a gang of tacklers.
Kapernick does well on third down as he stays in the pocket and drills the ball to Boldin, who is wide open down the left for a 10-yard gain. After Seattle committed another penalty for offside, which allowed the 49ers to extend their drive. There have been several costly penalties committed by the visitors this evening, which are keeping the home side in the game.
SACK! The 49ers spend six minutes with the ball but they look like they can only put three points on the board as Kaepernick's offensive line decides not to block anyone on third down and he is taken down by Bennett for a three-yard loss. Dawson will be left with a 40-yard field goal attempt.
FIELD GOAL GOOD! Seattle Seahawks 16-3 San Francisco 49ers
Dawson drills his kick through the posts and the 49ers are on the scoreboard at last, but they still trail by 13 points.
Richardson grounds the ball in the endzone and the Seahawks will start at their own 20.
Lynch gets the handoff and cuts back to the left side of the line and manages to coast through a couple of tackles to earn the first down and a bit more before he gets knocked out of bounds at the 35-yard line for a gain of 15 yards.
Michael gets the carry on first down for four yards, and the Seahawks will have second and six at the 39-yard line when the fourth quarter begins.
END OF THIRD QUARTER: Seattle Seahawks 16-3 San Francisco 49ers
Wilson fakes the handoff and fires deep down the sideline on play-action for Kearse who makes the catch to move the chains and guide his side into 49ers' territory, before he gets pushed out of bounds by Culliver.
Willson comes up with a huge play for the Seahawks as he takes a short pass from Wilson for eight yards to earn crucial first down for his side, as he manages to keep his knee off the ground before falling to the deck at the 49ers' 32-yard line.
SACK! Lynch comes up with a huge play for the 49ers as he manages to bring Wilson down in the pocket for an eight-yard loss. The quarterback manages to get back 12 yards for his side, but it's not enough to move the chains and that will force Hauschka into a 47-yard field goal attempt.
FIELD GOAL GOOD! Seattle Seahawks 19-3 San Francisco 49ers
Hauschka makes the important kick to hand his side a 16-point lead from 47 yards. The 49ers need a score on their next drive to keep themselves in the match.
Hyde returns the ball to the 21-yard line where Kaepernick will begin, on a drive where a touchdown is a must.
The 49ers move the chains but over a minute has gone off the clock as Kaepernick runs for nine yards on second down, while Gore runs for the hard yard on third to move the chains.
The home side get a break as the Seahawks are penalised yet again as Maxwell is called for holding on Boldin and that will move the 49ers to the 40-yard line, but time is of the essence here and Kaepernick is not showing any signs of urgency.
The Seawhawks commit another penalty as Bennett jumps across the line of scrimmage and hands the 49ers five yards, to make and third and six, a third and one. Gore takes full advantage and he plows through the middle of the line for a three-yard gain.
INTERCEPTION! Kaepernick throws his second interception of the game he tries to find Johnson down the sideline, but Sherman leaps up and makes the grab. It has been an abject performance from the quarterback this evening.
Wilson fires over to his tight end Willson and he makes the grab for the first down as he churns out 10 yards before he gets bundled out of bounds by Borland at the Seattle 43-yard line.
A real dagger from Wilson as he manages to evade the rush and escape to pick up a first down with a six-yard run. That should be game over.
Wilson fires on the run to Willson who raids downfield and manages to pick up the first down and a little bit more before he gets shoved out of bounds at the San Francisco 32-yard line for a 13-yard gain.
Lynch and the Michael keep the chain moving on the ground as they power through tacklers to earn 12 yards on two carries. The 49ers' defense looks beaten down and void of belief, and who can blame them. They have been let down badly by their offense this evening.
The Seahawks can't end the game on offense as Wilson's pass to Willson falls incomplete down the sideline, as the tight end juggles the ball with his foot in touch. The 49ers will take over on offense deep in their own territory.
The 49ers move the chains as Kaepernick fires to Johnson and then Gore over the middle of the field to earn 15 yards.
SACK! Kaepernick is sacked by Wright and that keeps the clock moving. The quarterback fires three short completions to keep the team moving downfield but the game is all but over.
Kaepernick fires a short pass to Hyde and he is brought down almost immediately by several tacklers, and that is the game and what a win it is for the Seahawks.
FULL-TIME: Seattle Seahawks 19-3 San Francisco 49ers
The Seahawks secure a major win their push to defend their Super Bowl title. They are now just one game behind the Arizona Cardinals in the race for the NFC West title, while the 49ers hopes of reaching the post-season have taken a massive hit. They will face an uphill battle to reach the playoffs if they continue to play as badly as they did this evening on the offensive side of the ball. The next month is a huge one for the club.
Thanks for joining our commentary of all the day's Thanksgiving games. We'll be back with all the NFL action on Sunday, but until then, it's goodbye.
