San Francisco 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith was arrested last night, police have confirmed.
Santa Clara Police Department announced earlier today that Smith had been arrested on DUI, vandalism and hit and run charges.
The 25-year-old served a nine-match suspension last season after numerous run-ins with the law.
Smith was previously arrested in 2012 for a DUI and faced weapon charges later that year after suffering multiple stab wounds at his home.
The former University of Missouri standout turned himself in to authorities on felony gun chargers in a house party gone wrong in 2013 while already being on voluntary leave to attend rehab for another DUI charge.
In 2014, Smith was arrested after making a false bomb threat at LAX airport.
Smith's new arrest puts his NFL future in doubt, having restructured his contract with the 49ers as a bet on himself that he could stay out of trouble.
