Former British athlete Lawrence Okoye has been released by the San Francisco 49ers as part of their roster cutdown ahead of the 2014 season.
The 22-year-old decided to pursue a career in the NFL after competing for Great Britain at the London Olympics in the discus and was signed by the 49ers last year after the 2013 Draft.
Okoye was placed on season-ending injured reserve after picking up an injury in pre-season, but has failed to make the roster for the 2014 campaign as he failed to move up the depth chart.
Jim Harbaugh's side also cut Carter Bykowski, Asante Cleveland, Lance Lewis, Kevin McDermott, Darryl Morris, Al Netter, Kassim Osgood, Michael Philipp, Mike Purcell, Ryan Seymour, Shayne Skov, Alfonso Smith, Adam Snyder, C.J. Spillman, Chase Thomas, Raymond Ventrone, L'Damian Washington and Glenn Winston.
