San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Anquan Boldin has admitted that he is hopeful that Aldon Smith will be able to receive the right help for his personal problems.
The 25-year-old was released by the 49ers following his arrest for driving under the influence, his fourth detainment over the past three years.
"I'm just more concerned about him as a person," Boldin told reporters. "Football doesn't come into play when it comes to a situation like that. My whole thought is just making sure he's okay as a person.
"He was looking the best I've ever seen. He was having a great camp. I think everybody was shocked. I wasn't here the entire off-season, but from what I gather, he's worked his butt off, and it looked that way when I got here. I think it was a shock to everyone."
The 49ers vowed to support Smith through his off-the-field issues despite releasing the linebacker.
