San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick has insisted that he and his teammates would welcome openly gay defensive end Michael Sam into the club should he be drafted by them in May.
Kaepernick said that if a player has the same desire to win that the rest of the locker room has then his sexual preference would not be a problem to the rest of the players.
"I think when he steps into that locker room, everyone's going to know that he's there to help us win games," Kaepernick told ESPN.
"That's why you're in the NFL, to help us win games. No one cares if you're black, white, straight, gay, Christian, Jewish, whatever it may be. That's your job. That's your occupation."
Sam, whose college team were the Missouri Tigers, revealed his sexuality earlier in the month.
