Colin Kaepernick's new contract with the San Francisco 49ers has reportedly worried Carolina Panthers counterpart Cam Newton.
The 49ers quarterback signed a new deal worth up to $126m (£75m) over six years, which includes a clause that allows the team to evaluate the deal on a year-to-year basis, with just $13m (£7.75m) fully guaranteed.
According to NFL Total Access, the deal "really scares" Newton's people, who are yet to begin talks with the NFC South side as the quarterback heads into the final year of his rookie contract.
The report also says that Newton is waiting to begin talks with the team, and is keen to secure a higher yearly salary and more guaranteed money than Kaepernick.
