The San Francisco 49ers have begun talks over a new contract with quarterback Colin Kaepernick, according to a report.
The 25-year-old will enter the final year of his rookie deal with the club when the 2014 season begins, after being selected in the second round of the 2011 Draft.
Kaepernick has impressed with his performance since replacing Alex Smith at quarterback, leading his side to the Super Bowl last season and their third NFC championship game in a row this campaign.
Now the club are keen to tie him down to a long-term deal, with Kaepernick and his representatives also pushing for a new deal as he will earn just $974,000 (£585,195) in this season, reports NFL Network.
Kaepernick threw 21 touchdowns to just nine interceptions last season.
