Ken Whisenhunt has said that the Tennessee Titans are in "no rush" to decide the future of Chris Johnson.
The running back is under contract for the 2014 NFL season, but has not matched his form from his early seasons in the league since signing a lucrative contract extension in 2011.
The AFC South side's new head coach told reporters: "Am I optimistic he'll remain on the team? It's a process you go through with everyone on your football team. Putting together the team is not an exact science.
"So we're under no deadline to do it. We have a lot of things to evaluate going forward. Chemistry's a big part of it. There's no rush to make a decision."
Johnson has rushed for at least 1,000 yards in his six seasons in the league.
