Mike Shanahan has said that the 2013 NFL draft has made the Washington Redskins a better team.
The NFC East champions did not have any picks in the first round because of a trade last year, but acquired cornerback David Amerson and tight end Jordan Reed with second and third-round selections.
The head coach told reporters: "I feel good about the guys we did get. When you get done with the draft, you're trying to look for some depth and some competition for your football team and I thought we were able to do that.
"What it does is it gives guys a chance to compete against one another. We're a better football team today than we were [before the draft]. I thought the draft went well.
"A lot of times the guy's not there and you move back five, ten picks and you pick up an extra pick. This year, when it was our pick, we had a guy in mind and that guy was available."
Last year the Redskins drafted quarterback Robert Griffin III with the second overall pick, with him going on to be the league's offensive rookie of the year.
