Team GB archer Kieran Slater has suffered a narrow defeat at the round-of-16 stage of the men's individual archery in Baku.
The 21-year-old had earlier overcome Turkey's Yagiz Yilmaz, claiming a resounding 6-0 victory at the Tofiq Bahramov Stadium, but he was unable to get the better of Frenchman Pierre Plihon for a place in the last eight.
Slater took the first set 2-0, with the second being tied after both men had hit their first maximums in a 1-1 draw.
Despite losing the third set 2-0, Slater took the fourth by the same scoreline to leave Plihon on the brink.
The European Games bronze medallist picked himself up to claim a 2-0 triumph in set five, though, thus paving the way for a shoot-off to decide who would advance through to face the Netherlands' Sjef van der Berg.
It was Plihon who held his nerve, outscoring Slater 9-8 in the sudden-death scenario to eliminate his opponent.
