Forty-year-old Jo Pavey tells Sports Mole that she has no plans to retire after winning bronze in the 5000m final at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

England long-distance runner Jo Pavey has insisted that she has no plans to step away from the sport after securing a bronze medal in the women's 5000m final at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

The 40-year-old led the pack towards the closing stages of the race, but eventually fell behind Kenyan duo Mercy Cherono and Janet Kisa, who nabbed gold and silver respectively.

After taking in a lap of honour around the Hampden Park track, Pavey told Sports Mole: "I'm chuffed to get a medal, I can't believe it. It felt a bit surreal to be honest from across the line. I just had to look at the scoreboard. I don't want to think I've got a medal and be wrong. So I can't believe it."

When probed on her plans for the future, Pavey added: "I don't know. The next thing is the Europeans and in ten days I'm doing the 10,000 and then hopefully the 5,000 as well - I'm planning to do both - so yeah, that's the aim now.

"I'm not going to give up yet, we'll see what happens. I'm not ruling out trying to qualify for the Olympics in Rio. I'd be quite old then!"

Pavey's England teammate Emelia Gorecka finished eighth in her first Commonwealth appearance, while Helen Clitheroe came in 11th.
