Dafne Schippers has revealed that she was surprised with the time that she was able to record in the 200m final at the World Athletics Championships in Beijing.

Schippers stormed to gold in 21.63s, the fourth-fastest time ever recorded, and the Dutch sprinter has admitted that she has started to think about Florence Griffith-Joyner's world record, which stands at 21.34s.

The 23-year-old is quoted by Sport24 as saying: "Before the 200m final in Beijing, I didn't know I could run this time, so I surprised myself.

"I'm 23, I have all the time. I hope so. We will see what happens in the coming years. I'm training as a sprinter, it's step by step, I think.

"I hoped to run under 22 seconds in Beijing and I did, it was faster than I hoped. Maybe breaking the world record is possible, but I need some time, that's normal. I think more about it than before."

Schippers also claimed a silver medal in the 100m at the event in China.
